DC Hub Launches Data Center Power Index (DCPI) — First Daily-Refreshing Public Scorecard of U.S. Data Center Power Availability

Open methodology, contrarian rankings, and free real-time API distinguish DCPI from legacy data center indices.

NEW YORK — May 9, 2026 — DC Hub today announced the public launch of the Data Center Power Index (DCPI), a daily-refreshing scorecard of power availability across 232 US power markets. DCPI is the first index of its kind to publish complete methodology, expose contrarian rankings, and refresh from real-time ISO grid data, with all market scores freely available for citation, embedding, and API integration.

Unlike legacy data center indices that recommend Tier-1 markets where brokerage fee revenue concentrates, DCPI's Excess Power Score is engineered to surface overlooked markets. Cheyenne, Wyoming (Excess Power 69.5), Rural SPP (67.2), and Williston, North Dakota (65.0) lead the BUILD rankings, while traditionally favored markets like Northern Virginia score 22.1 due to grid constraint, cold-queue interconnection, and saturated load growth.

"Every consultant on the planet pushes Northern Virginia and Phoenix because that's where their fees are. DCPI is what the spreadsheet would tell you if you didn't have a brokerage to feed."

— Jonathan Martone, Founder, DC Hub

Methodology and data sources

DCPI ingests data from seven U.S. Independent System Operators (ERCOT, PJM, CAISO, MISO, SPP, NYISO, ISO-NE) plus the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory interconnection queue, EPA water stress data, USGS aquifer monitoring, and HIFLD substation infrastructure. The two-axis scoring (Excess Power + Constraint) recomputes every six hours.

The complete methodology — including weight tables, data sources, and version history — is published openly at dchub.cloud/dcpi/methodology. The full historical dataset is downloadable as open CSV at dchub.cloud/data/dcpi-history.csv with no authentication.
